Prices for the 2016 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat will start at $65,190, and the 2016 Charger SRT Hellcat will start at $68,640, both including a destination fee of $995 and gas-guzzler tax of $1,700, a Dodge spokesman told Edmunds.

That's a $4,200 increase over the previous year's model for the Challenger and a $3,650 increase for the Charger.

To help offset the additional cost, the Dodge spokesman pointed out that "both 2016 Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat models include standard navigation and standard Laguna leather seats, which are included in the price increase because they were already a very high customer take rate option. The added content is valued at $2,490."

Powertrains remain unchanged, with both Hellcat models getting the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 engine that puts out 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

As previously reported by Edmunds, Dodge plans to double 2016 model-year production of these high-performance models to meet high customer demand.

Dodge dealers are taking orders now for the 2016 Hellcat models, with production scheduled to begin in September.

Key competitors to the Challenger SRT Hellcat include the Chevrolet Corvette Z06, Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Shelby GT350.

The Charger SRT Hellcat's competitors include the Cadillac CTS-V and Chevrolet SS.
