New to the HC world.

I've owned a SRT Durango. I has a slight tick as well but not like what just started today. First start of the day ( also any start after sitting for a couple hours). I hear a loud ticking noise. It seems to be coming from the left side of the car under the driver side area. If you rev it, it silences it but is comes right back. You can hear it in idle. When i put in drive the sounds gets louder with a noticeable vibration sound. Once you get going and the care warms up, it goes away. Normal driving, still runs strong- no oil pressure issues, doesn't leak a drop of anything. only 4500 mi on it..is there something more going on here or is it normal and i'm just in my head?

Durango members?
Not so much sure is durango more of engine. My old daytona 6.4 sometime had a tick on startup. Sometimes was pretty loud. I shut it off a couple times because of it, let it sit for a minute and restarted it and it was fine. Dont have an answer what the cause was but didn't do it enough that I took it in

I'm sorry, what vehicle and engine are we talking about?

If we are talking about a Durango, our Durago R/T had a slight tick during start up during cold weather until about 10,000 miles and then it went away. Since then it's be quiet as a mouse and runs awesome for a baby Hemi.

My 5.7 Ram has been library quiet until 175,000 miles and it now does the exact same thing as your Durango. Mostly annoying but no other performance issues!!

Sorry. I may have confused. I’m referring to my HC.

If it was MDS I’d say lifters

My Hellcat has ticked from day one. Does it for about 30 seconds when cold, then goes away. Used to worry about it, but its so common I've accepted it as ok--ish.

I made the 6.4 in a Ram tick by using the wrong oil. It was the correct grade (Mobil 1), but not the right formula.
Changed back to the correct oil and the tick went away.

THIS

6.4's are known for sometimes making a racket at startup, especially after left sitting for a few days or more. Maybe it's the MDS lifters.

Me, I stop it, pause and restart it, it's gone.

6.4 in the Durango has it occasionally after sitting for extended periods - maybe has done it 4 or 5 times in 9,000 miles. 6.4 in Charger not enough miles to have data, but has been library quiet so far. 6.2 has never done it.

Bobo, with that mileage, yours could actually be a lifter going bad? You might be ok if your engine light doesn’t come on but my 2013 5.7 had a diagnosis of a miss in #5 that turned out to be a bad lifter. Once the needle bearings go, the roller locks up and wipes the cam. That would be a catastrophic failure.

That’s what I’m concerned with.

Personally, I will never keep a Hemi again with more than 150,000 miles on it without doing some major work. If I really love the vehicle, I will replace all the lifters and do a valve job. That would be expensive but in your case, it would be cheaper than buying another truck without having a good trade-in?

Hellcat has never made any noise. Scat Pack has about 3-4 times in about 8K miles. I want to yank and change lifters everytime it does it.
