What do you suppose will happen to Demon170 and Last Call production if UAW strike on sept. 17?

Demon 170s will be built first after the strike ends. As many cars as possible will be built after that until the plant shuts down approx. December 22.

Could be a protracted strike, demands are insane IMO !!
40% pay bump over 4 yrs
temp & subs get same pay as FT
no step pay based on YOS (i.e. socialist, everyone gets paid the same)
more paid time off

If even 1/2 of that gets implemented expect a HUGE jump in the already stratospheric new car prices we're seeing !!
IMO, will bite the unions in the ass - there will be a slump in sales, layoffs and huge incentive to take plant automation to the next level & bring in AI/robotics.

If a 40% pay raise is good enough for the CEO it should be good enough for the workers.

I think the last call hype is abating and the company won't be in any rush to build extra units, except maybe the 170s.

Will be interesting to watch. The union demands seem pretty high on the surface but I have no background info to base them on. I have read they want a 46% pay increase and also want a 4 day work week but pay for 5?

I wish I could demand this from my company.

Speculation is all over the place on car builds. I've "heard" that once a car gets a VIN it will be built but who knows. If that's the case Dodge could just assign VINs to all sold orders?

If it lasts, how are they going to be able to fill the orders? Isn't Dec 31th the deadline?

get rid of the union and bring in people that want to work. Worse thing that could happen right now for anyone waiting on a car:mad:

The union workers are more than 40% behind since 2008 when adjusted for inflation, with no COLA since that was temporarily suspended which turned into basically a permanent hold! Insurance benefits have been cut. No pension and just an ok 401k contribution, no insurance benefits after retirement so your on your own to buy insurance or rely on Medicare if you were hired after 2009/10

I make about $4hr more than I did 10 years ago when I started. How many other jobs have only gotten $4 over the last decade of huge corporate profits?
Then I just keep hearing about all the great bonuses and incentives?! Yes we get bonuses but we pay taxes at GIFT TAX rates and extra union dues on EVERY payment other than regular work week! You don’t make anything decent unless you’re willing to work seven days a week 10-12 hours a day!
I’m tired of all the “they don’t deserve that much” it’s not as great as the media makes it out to be because they don’t see what we do! We only get 80 hrs of vacation and 40 hrs of paa days but they force you to use vacation time during mandatory summer and winter shut downs! So you don’t really get any!

I’m skilled trades and you have operators making within $5hr of what trades guys make?! I did a real apprenticeship and got my journeyman mold-maker card in the “real world”

The contract ends on September 14th @11:59:59 not the 17th UNIFORs contract ends on the 18th

Both unions voted 97% and 99% respectively to strike.
No cars will be built during strike and if the companies don’t give a little (they’ve offered crap at Ford and GM and Stellantis have offered nothing) then this could last for quite some time! Months even

Right now I’m guessing 95% chance of a strike starting at midnight September 15th! It will continue until they give something back! The union gave all these concessions in 2008 and have gotten nothing back or we would be above where Shawn is trying to get us!
Lump sum bonuses every other year is shit compared to a wage increase each year! Especially with the gift tax rate and extra dues that come out🤬

Oh and the labor costs of a new car is actually really low compared to materials costs! It’s like 8% or so of the cost where materials and logistics is like 40-60% depending on vehicle!

The huge price increases are because of the materials end not labor even though the company propaganda will have you thinking it’s all because if labor costs! It’s not.

You’re inferring union members don’t want to work? Union members for the most part are very hard workers and always working! I work an average of 74hrs a week EVERY WEEK!! Plus holidays and shut downs! Plus most union membership is conservative, it’s the actual union “leadership” that are lib nuts with few sprinkled into the general work force!

The 32 hour work week thing will never happen! No way in hell, unless they switch to the alternate work schedule which which is a totally fucked idea! Look into it.

Well, if you want a union you have to expect to pay the dues (per the scale YOUR union sets) that ALWAYS come with it !!
So zero sympathy on having to pay extra dues on bonuses etc.

Having come from the Detroit area & working for both GM & Chrysler back in the day, I know how all this works.
What I see happening here is a repeat of when the unions bitched long & loud about how awful the paint workers had it (and it was a nasty job) and kept demanding more & more pay etc. Finally got to the point where the Big 3 just broke down & installed robotic paint booths & canned the ppl or relegated them to lesser paying (but far less nasty) line jobs. The ensuing tidal wave of bitching & whining was crazy. Personally had to laugh, workers & unions kicking a fit that the jobs they said were so horrible had been taken away by automation.

IMO contract demands like this are just setting the stage for a large wave of jobs being lost. They are already planning to retool many of these plants + the switch to EV's - it's the perfect storm and excuse they need to significantly pare down the ranks ! Careful what you ask for !!

If you need an example just walk into any newer McD's - take note on just how few ppl actually work there & how much is automated. They can thank the $15/hr min. wage crowd for that !!

Thanks for the real life context, that's why I said I had no background to base the demands on. Hope it all works out for everybody. It's a similar story where I work as well and I'm in IT in BIG corporate America.

If you get a 32 hour work week, that is the worst thing ever, a lot of labor laws would not be in effect and you would be considered a part time employee thus any entitlements you have could and probably will be stripped away. 32 hour is 32 hours according to the law, doesn't matter if they pay you for 40.

They want annual inflation raises on top of new contract raises. They lost the inflation raises during the great recession.

UAW strike won't affect the Challenger and Charger production, Unifor oversee that production. UAW on the other hand would be way worse as they build the Ram 1500, Wagoneer. Wrangler/Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, Durango, Camaro, Corvette, Malibu, GM mid/full size trucks and SUV's, Mustang, Explorer, Expedition, Ranger, F series trucks, etc. UAW strike can wipe out Last Call on the Camaro and TRX.

Unifor holds the cards on the Demon 170 and a strike until December 31st would be very embarrassing for Dodge.

Quite frankly my dear, I don't give a ****

I had a feeling the 23's were headed for troubles, I ordered a 22 Challenger Redeye, delivered this past January. I have 930 miles, to date, this should do me for 8 years, when my extended warranty runs out. RIP Dodge...

I can't see his being good for anybody...The topic itself is more highly charged than religion or politics...does it mean that those of us waiting for The Demon 170 wont get one...maybe...who really knows for sure...
