Left active duty at 23 - joined the ANG and started college full time
Graduated at 27 - worked as an engineer for 2.5 years and stayed in ANG
Left for Pilot Training at 29.5 - worked full time ANG (same Title 10 orders as AD) for the next 6 years
Went part time again in the ANG at 35 and now I am 36...still doing that gig while I work as a full-time civilian supporting the F-16 program.
I've never had a break in service, so 18 time in service for me. Only 13 of that is active duty time though with about 5 part time. So I can retire in 2 years with a Guard retirement, or find a way to get 7 more years of active duty time and retire with a full active duty retirement as an O-5 @ 43 years old.
