Here is another direction things can go if you really, really pound them. This one would run oil temps of 280-290 on road courses. I am stubborn. They say it will actually blow fire into the converters saving itself with getting so rich because of the heat it senses. Well, this can happen. Things can get real bad after that.
I can tell you all. The 180 degree thermo saves nearly 20 degrees quick. That part is no joke to cool these things off for certain operations. Eliminate the cats (closed course only) and a tune. Now it runs about 190 water temp and not more than about 230-240 oil temps on the courses. Oh, and runs a shit load better and always consistent.

Because of the converter above, This little problem occurred at 152 mph while accelerating.

Yes, it showered an otherwise good engine with fine particles of wonderful aluminum alloy. Engine held together!
