On 1000 plus hp hellcats do you lose et by launching in 2nd? I would think that your 60 foot would be a tad slower. But you have one less shift which may give you that lost time back. I'm talking about keeping it in manual down the track. It will shift at 6500 rpm by default using this method.

What fear do you have? Depends on how you’re tuned. I’m tuned for a 1st gear launch and have no issues (3.09)

I guess on wot timing up to 4000 rpm you could reduce timing to nill.

I know that mine will shift out of first in drive at 5500 every time. I even had issues trying to pay attention to the shift light where I would get scared and grab it too early. I think the highest I shifted out of first was 6000 all week.

I usually don't get into launching in second gear unless the track absolutely sucks. Then it's a virtual requirement.

The other goofy thing is mine will always shift into fifth before the end of the quarter usually between 900 and 1,000 ft if I had to guess. So maybe there would be some benefit for me switching to a 309 so I can utilize more of that gear. Or a shorter Tire... but the sidewall is probably the only thing saving the car right now.

In my Hellcat 2nd gear was the only gear I could launch in. 1st was so quick it was goofy to even try launching in it.

If you’re losing time in the first 60’ to gain some in the next 800, it ain’t gonna work. Get your tuning sorted and use 1st.

Jon and I have discussed this. For my car with 2.62 we think 1st gear is the way to go. My best 2nd gear 60 ft is a 1.39. I have a 1.33 leaving in 1st on a good prepped track. Race weight is 4650-4700 lbs. Now if I had 3.09 it would be 2nd gear. A low 1.3 would be on a good hooking track and he has backed off the launch to try to get it to hook every time and this year been in the 1.4s. We could probably try more but only been out twice and was more concerned on it hooking every time

I have also had issues with 1st short shifting. Jon has it close right now around 6100 but there is more to it then just putting in a shift rpm

Nothing better than a 1st gear launch with traction. I wonder if a 2nd gear launch puts more strain on the transmission?

if you were only .06 faster with the first gear launch i have a feeling the 1 to 2 shift must of taken at least .06. No?

The shifts are supposed to take only 160 milliseconds?

I'll have to see what Curt can do about that then. It's disturbing how short mine will shift out of first unless I try to manually command the shift or leave it in M.

1st gear is quick not sure how quick though. I only had the one 1.39 in 2nd. Everything is thrown at it to do this where there is room for adjustment with a 1st gear launch. A lighter car and 3.09s getting in the 1.2s 2nd gear is possible

You have to look at the the whole package and apply what will work the best for it
