I have 3 boxes of 4 types of heat resisting materials. Over the years have accumulated them for heat and cooling systems. From Armaflex, cooling, to mineral wool for heat. Then most important is your radiant barrier or vapor barrier. Would not work with out the proper barrier. Have been working with these materials for 30 years. has to be matched up with the proper system,, or as they say in Mussey Point, pissing on the wrong craw fish. Heat with heat and cooling with,, you get it. Vapor barrier has to match the proper tempt.

WELL DONE ! Do you plan on documenting the mods and posting them here. Heat dissipation and barriers are often over looked and or minimized on builds. There is a lot of Horsepower / Torque and engine life left on the table when people don't focus on these things as well.

Actually my wife’s A8 Challenger is the first auto I have ever owned and it was an agonizing decision to go with auto over the M6 but since the car was to be her daily drive and I would be restricted to racing it on weekends it was hands down the correct decision. I’m not saying the A8 is better than the M6 because what does that even mean to each individual, I’m saying based on hundreds of time slips it’s faster and far more consistent than any human will ever be regardless of their genius behind the wheel .
I daily drive a 1970 factory circuit racing car more like your beautiful fastback Barracuda its raw and uncomfortable but as much fun as you can have with your pants on . Is the 3 speed on the floor better than the M6 because it’s more fun , of course not that would be ridiculous .
Ever try drivin it with your pants down...just for the Hell of it?

Change the title to manual transmissions are the most fun because everyone knows the A8 is the better transmission. :p:D:LOL::ROFLMAO:

Yes, insulating made a difference in IAT’s, coolant temp is usually about 7-8 degrees over ambient. Under the reflective sticky back is 1/4” insulation sheet, and the JLT air box, the throttle body inlet tube, blower spacer, double insulating blanket between engine and blower, all Coolant lines and the Intercooler pump will be insulated as well.
Very cool!

It is a case of managing the thermal properties. You are either trying to contain heat (for efficiency (exhaust)) or reflect/insulate heat from things you need to keep cool. I did find it interesting that the cold-loop intercooler pipes are un-insulated; even the hot discharge side is cooler than the engine/exhaust - yet there it sits right over the exhaust manifold. Also, folks need to realize that the fancy crap vendors try to sell you is readily available in the HVAC section at Home Depot for far less money; and with a bit of research you can find other options online that will work as well or better.

Air is a great insulator and movement (evacuation) helps a lot.

I really want to get a set of factory manifolds, port the flanges out, and get them ceramic coated.

Something-something manual transmissions generate less heat and are far superior. :p

image.jpg On the subject of heat and manual transmissions and the blower inter cooler loop. I was under the impression the blower cooling loop heat exchanger (radiator) was in the sandwich in front of the main coolant radiator, it is but there’s actually 2 of them. Coolant comes out of the pump and goes to the small radiator in the lower left of the front facial, exits that radiator and enters another radiator which is right behind the AC condenser radiator which puts out allot of heat when in use but the weird thing is the manual transmission cooling lines go into the same radiator as the blower intercooler coolant goes into. Is the top part transmission fluid and the bottom part intercooler fluid?? Seems where it’s at and how its serving 2 different devices there room for improvement as far as getting the inter coolant temps lower if not using a power chiller??
I’ll be bypassing both radiators when the Chiller is active so it won’t hurt chilled water temps just putting it out there where it’s at and how it’s plumbed for “is there a better way?” And also a question of why engineers chose to do it the way they did? I can see why People who run the AC in hot climates have such higher coolant and IAT temps, the AC condenser is killing blower coolant temps.

I've never looked at it that closely but that is an interesting discovery. I'd mentioned this quite some time ago (either here or on that other site) that looking into using a form on external chemical intercooling could be hugely beneficial to reducing charge temps. That literally means spraying a mix of distilled water and isopropyl alcohol on there and letting the fan pull it across. I want to experiment with it in the Spring to see how much faster the Race Cool down function responds with the extra medium on the surface area of the heat exchanger.

I agree , M6 is faster at loosing races than the A8.
Hope your A8 is faster than your spellcheck

We have beatin this topic to death...with the exception of this one dynamic...ANYBODY can drive an A8..(man or woman) and compete..VERY FEW men...and even less women can master the M6....and that's a FACT

Hate to say it but the topic is “manual transmissions are the best”...not how few men master the M6 or how few women can master a manual trans. After 12 pages of comments on the topic, very few agree that manual transmissions are better than A8’s. All agree that M6’s are fun to drive and give you a feel for the road. Maybe in that sense, they are better than an A8 to some but guys with A8’s have plenty of fun driving theirs too. I have had more than one high powered manual trans car and really don’t think I would have enjoyed tracking a manual as much as my A8. It literally felt like a race car on the track and the automatic downshifting and upshifting was amazing. Driving an M6 around the course as fast as I could go would have been a struggle and probably the novelty would have worn off pretty early in the session. I know that’s just me but I’m not trying to prove what a man I am! C1F098C5-F92F-4DF5-A88B-2FF67203AD94.jpeg

So after your a master of the M6 - what does that get you ?
Quarter mile - Auto
Road Course - Stick or Auto

I know all about slamming gears , I use to have a 6 speed in my 97 Cobra & raced it for many years & 2 years in the Summit Racing bracket series, which I was the only stick car out of 66 cars in the series & I was the only one that drove to & from the events & a street car , all others were trailer queens showing up in Winnebago's & enclosed car haulers & dedicated bracket cars. I was always way behind the 8 ball. I did it for fun though.
The 1st year I finished 10th place out of 66, which I was proud of considering. The second year I had fuel pump, super charger belt pulley issues & burnt up my clutch , all at different times so it dropped me too far back in points to make a difference.
When I finally sold my Cobra , I told myself that I would never buy another stick car for racing, just too much of a disadvantage. They can be fun for the street just playing around.
