From 1st hand experience (2 times no less) I have to agree with it.

Been there twice myself....after 10 years of owning a 35 ft offshore boat..(a huge money pit)...and have never been down to the marina since...that was almost 20 years ago...

We first had a little express cruiser and it wasn't big enough so it got traded for a sedan bridge.
We rented a small condo short term so it would sell and we were going to find a larger power boat. Got off and never went back.

That's generally the way it goes...once yer done yer done for good...it was a lot of fun from 77 to 98..started with an 18 ft Tahiti jet boat with a 460 ford/berkley jet drive...(no fast cars in 77 so moved to boats)...then moved up to a 35ft Fountain twin 575 big block Mercury marine engines...would run 85 plus...

That's generally the way it goes...once yer done yer done for good...it was a lot of fun from 77 to 98..started with an 18 ft Tahiti jet boat with a 460 ford/berkley jet drive...(no fast cars in 77 so moved to boats)...then moved up to a 35ft Fountain twin 575 big block Mercury marine engines...would run 85 plus...

Have 0 desire to even go out on the water now. It was a great time but things change.

Thats nice and fast for that size boat. One of my clients has jet ski w around 15k in mods that will do over 100 mph. I appreciate it, but im not pushing that to the limit myself.

Had those back in the day...from the old stand up Kawasaki's (40mph)..to the later sit down Yamaha's..(60 mph)..cant imagine triple digits on one of those...funny the family used to live for wk.ends @ the beach...fri.to monday...now..no desire for water sports..(of any kind)

First boat was a 16’ Baja with a 115 Merc, great runabout and for skiing. Then got the bug for a ’86 Hydrostream 20’ Vegas XT with the “Air Entrapment Hull”. With a 200 Merc it would do 79, which was extremely fast back in the day. One guy called it a “Vette on water”.

Then married the best girl in the world, her parents had a house on a lake. The FIL would encourage (sucker) his friends to go for a ride (without the FIL). I would take it to the end of the bay gently then do a WOT on the way back and get 70+ going by the house. No one ever asked for second ride! LOL!

BTW: The FIL would not like anything over 25mph!

The HC is a bit like going back to my undisciplined youth.

That Hydrostream was like a popsicle stick with a motor..a local guy here had one with a 200 black max on it back in the early 80's...it flew..but was flighty...

Exactly. Not into the ability of the super fast stuff to just flip or cork screw... too little control for me. Lol while in a car at 150 im fine.

About 10 years ago they put a 45mph limit on the lake... Like the end of freedom... What the hell is the point...

I'm cool with "no wake" where appropriate, 5 mph, 10 mph, 15... but if large enough there should be a pretty much no limit zone. Within reason. That 100+ seated jet ski I mentioned... my friend lets his sons ride it and do whatever they want. Showed me a vid of the kid approaching 90 on it and his only comment was "he can't get the speedo to show MPH, had to leave it on kilometers..." lol, his wife says "they're all morons."

The Hydrostream at a good speed did not produce a noticable wake and it was not displacing much, if any, water.
