Took the Hellcat to the shop. Cold start on Monday and she made the most ungodly knocking sound. Something in the bottom end is not happy. Scared the devil out of me. Pictures once disassemble begins.
Oh man...that don't sound good @ all

Yikes...out in the blazing sun....
Yep. And in rain, snow, whatever the weather serves up.

But hey, those are her cars. Most of mine are under roofs.

Drove mine yesterday, for the first time in 2025. I went to have coffee with the car guys...then took my wife out for breakfast. Probably 30-40 miles, total.

Finally got someone with a brain to look at the car. Well there was a recall for the cats and 02 sensors several years ago that I elected not to have done. So the left bank cat failed internally so bad it bent the 02 sensor. I’ll send pictures shortly. Both cats and sensors are being replaced under the recall. No,@Jon-MooredPerformanceLLC they are not flashing my PCM😉.

I did mine right before Jon started tuning it. They also asked me if I had a tune which I didn't. I wanted the new parts why I had them do it

Happy to hear it was nothing major in the engine! Very interested to see pic's of the carnage.

Well, after another full day in the shop, the right side is conquered except for PCV plumbing. I could write a novel about this project and I have lost track of how many hours I have invested, but it's still worth it to me for maintainability and looks, but is not for the faint of heart.

Right side lower valve cover bolts were tricky to get started - just no room and it's all by feel and technique, but I got 'em. The right side wiring: no way (no room) to do my original idea I outlined above. Coils went on good, but everything is tight on space. I used the 4 short coil harness extensions and just had to route and tie the excess - it's all this aging boy was good for, but it still looks ok I think. To answer your question about plug R&R on the right side - orders of magnitude easier than OEM - just unplug harnesses and remove coils, just like the left side; I don't think the IC tank or lines need to be touched, just will need the correct length of socket and extension to leave a plane for ratchet swing. I installed the new plugs while I had the valve covers off, so I have not actually tested just a plug change, but it will be much easier regardless.

Getting closer, still several things to tidy back up. Hoping to test fire next weekend.

(Valve cover) Mission accomplished. Decided to shed the SpeedLogix front strut brace and revert to OEM brace just to ease the busy-ness under the hood a bit (P.S. it's available if anybody wants it - black crinkle finish ;-)). Hit the "start" button for the first time in ~2-months, fired right up. This is how the car should have come IMHO. Now, just have to get the lower cover off to clean up underneath from the PS oil and some coolant drips, change engine oil, and hopefully find the couple of items dropped into the black hole from up top during the project and get the cowl back on.

Hope Unhoy Guy takes note as to how a clean engine bay should look after it's been worked on

And as usual, I didn't do a thing to mine today. But did start considering selling my favorite car.

Why? It'd be part of my latest quest to slow down a bit. One of these days my luck will run out and I'll either run off the road or lose my license. Sure, I could just drive it more slowly, right? Not really. If not going fast on twisty roads, what fun would it be?

Been struggling with this all my driving life. Went from road course racing to getting a stock Jeep CJ2A, which definitely slowed me down (there was really a completely different reason for that switch, but still), then back to another sports car, then to a '65 Cadillac that forced me to slow down. And so on.

Got heavily into four wheeling, where the object was generally to be able to go as slowly as possible. Then relapsed into going (too) fast again. Even sold the Jeep, which my girlfriend still can't believe I did - if anything she figured I'd be buried in it. So if I could sell that Jeep, I should be able to sell the Challenger.

We're getting rain, every other day. Suckin' hard this year. Last year, I was driving my HC and 300C thru-out the winter.
It was no snow, salt, and fairly warm.

Here it was the other way around. Our spring started mid November, and I could've driven whatever almost every day. No snow, no plow trucks, no salt.

I'd gladly trade you. We need some rain bad now.
