Also makes the tongue effectively longer, for tighter pivots/turns. Helps eliminate sway and improves handling. No additional parts to truck.

As noted above, a good WD hitch would solve the sagging, and has other advantages that different springs or air springs could never match, due to simple physics.

Also, weight can certainly be an issue, but one notable drawback with an enclosed trailer is the parachute effect. It wouldn't matter if the trailer only weighs 1,000 lbs., the mileage will take a dump. And the near mandatory side door alone adds about half of that weight.

With a short and light tow vehicle like a Durango, any side wind (natural or from passing tractor trailers) can make it a handful. A WD hitch with active anti sway will help, but the laws of physics still wouldn't be on your side.

When I bought the 1500 it was equipped with the HD towing pkg, 3.92 posi, e-torque and was a quad cab for weight savings to increase the towing capacity.

When I decided to move up to an enclosed traile, I knew that the 1500 wasn't up for the job after pulling the Charger on an open trailer.

Forget about crossing any mountains. The way up would kill the powertrain and the way down would of killed us or others.

Good thing. My plans were to travel to events even though I didn't get to as many as planned.

Probably from about 40K to near 140K.

How long is a piece of rope?

I think a Laramie last summer was about $74K. Almost doubled from the 2020 price.

That’s insane.

Well, until recently my girlfriend towed with a gasser and it did quite well.

Of course, it was a Ram 3500 crew cab longbed with the 6.4, so a bit more meaningful than any 1500. With 4.10 gears it did fine in the hills, and got decent mileage. Better than expected.

She'd never tow with anything on P-rated tires, and the smallest tow vehicle she's had was a Ram 2500 crew cab with a shortbed. It was a diesel.

I wish they'd had 3.55 gears when I bought my dually. The 3.73 gears chew too much fuel/at boost, on the highway.

I ordered the 3.73s for my 3500 DRW and like them a lot.

They keep the engine at about 2,000 rpm at 80, which is my preferred speed where the curves allow it. The downside is that they drop the stated max tow capacity to 18,010 lbs. With 4.10s it would've been 23,010.
