Styling lacked interest...small..... bloated....rounded...performed well...surprisingly roomy interior...the car just lacked personality...
I actually dug that phone company car look at times... Twice got "pulled over" by Federal agents (with no traffic stop authority), and later a black GTO running a full laser jammer set up was pulled over (so he said) and asked by the officer who he was. Just verbally, and when he had that, guy walked back to the patrol car and drove off, didn't ticket him. There's a benefit to lower observability...

Always liked them myself. Sounds like great memories with that car.

Except teh federal agent part... that was not a benefit. The second time, I just drove off while the guy was trying to talk with me (at that point I was "if you're going to arrest me, arrest me"). Long story. It's all over on the GTO forum.

Once they put the LS2 in it, it was top notch!
Oh yeah I remember back in 2007 when I was getting into drag racing with my brand new 300C SRT8, there were always some of them at the track and they did not like getting beat by a big 4-door! The 6.1 could really pull up top and was too much for them on the big end, but always liked them, especially the later ones with the LS2 and the separated dual exhaust tips instead of the single-style Euro exhaust on the first ones...

You know the gto was made in Australia, over here they are called Holden commodore.
Well, the GTO was called the Monaro in Oz.

I converted my GTO back to a Monaro.

And that yellow Monaro was fast. And the subject of a magazine spread. A very well done ride.

What, you converted it to rhd?

Seriously, apart from that, what were the differences?

Sent from my ELS-NX9 using Tapatalk
True, I didn't convert to RHD. Not only would it have been a giant PITA to do but it would have been an even bigger PITA to drive on our roads.

I don't think there were many differences after the conversion. I swapped over all emblems, interior and exterior. The front and rear facias. Removed the GTO badge on the fender to install the signal lamps. Removed the spoiler and had the holes welded shut and painted. Swapped from "GTO" to "Monaro" calipers, swapped the cluster and airbag. Swapped to Holden keys...even had a Monaro owners manual in the glovebox. Holden fuel rail covers, too. The only thing I didn't do that I wished that I had was replacing the seat back covers to ones that didn't have "GTO" embroidered in them.

The wheels (ROH Drift-R, staggered) weren't factory, but they were Aussie.

A buddy of mine used to be the Parts Manager at Hunter Holden in Ryde (suburb of Sydney) and hooked me right up.
