Do not have a catch can on this car. Yes, I know:

bad wreck.gif

But have not died from it.

Had a home made one the SC GTO for years and never collected a drop other than right at first. And that initial "catch" was not oil, looked more like a fatty sludge.

Do you mean 6.1L @DGatzby ?

My 6.4 was not that bad...still glad I had one on it though. Just like this redeye, any filtration here is a good thing IMO, even if it only catches a little blow by. They built in separators into the PCV system for a reason starting with the 6.4 back in 2011, the 6.1 didn't have it.
How embarrassing it has been too long. Yes, thanks, the 6.1L, since we had nearly identical cars!

I was going to make some derailing comment, but then @DGatzby wouldn't be happy with me...

(It's probably because you're using the wrong oil...)
Oh do it, certainly we won’t get derailed and talk about something else. Like getting arrested in the Netherlands after beginning to talk about a Demon selling at an auction?

They're definitely not all created equal

I'm running a JLT on the driver's side, would getting one for the passenger side potentially catch oil?

Most are used on the p/s with minimal gain with one on the d/s. Are you sure you haven't got that back asswards?

That is what made me look last night. I was having a conversation with a man who watched a video. He was almost persuaded to begin a big project on his Redeye. My example shows how a simple can connected to the drivers side works pretty darn good at least on the engine that I have. Consider the multiple HPDE sessions on six different days, running the car to its limits at WOT, and only catching about 1.5 OZ. We have to be much harder on them on the road course rather than WOT for 10-15 seconds at a time drag racing only.

I have a question for guys with fender mount JLT's. The install videos show the lines from the pcv to the can are routed below both. It seems to me this could form a P-trap. Do you guys have to empty the line to the can when you empty the catch can?
(Just curious. I have a Billet Tech.)

Maybe a teaspoon in 1k mi, but this makes me think I should put one in the DSRT
I have the JLT 3.0 that I pulled of my Challenger before I sold it. Let me know if you're interested.

and to answer the original question......I'd get about 1 oz. in between oil changes at 3k miles on the 6.4L.

No, I said what I said. I run one currently on the driver's side and it catches zero oil. Bone dry. Would running one on the passenger side catch oil?

Mine does. Most folks use them on the p/s side and seem to get results with minimal result, if any, on the d/s. Here’s my JLT. 3ED21690-46D4-43A6-93B3-5576E69CB310.jpeg

DGatzby,

I've got the UPR brand oil catch can - engine block mounted. I even installed it myself - my first step up the mechanical competence ladder of Hellcat success. I get 1-2 ounces between six month oil and filter changes - and I ran a couple of road course weekends. If anyone ever asks me what it is - pretty chrome - I'll be sure to tell them it adds 37 HP.

This link I got off the aadperformance.com website under the technical articles. The author thinks a catch can on the driver's side and a second one on the passenger side is merited. I don't have any idea what side it should go on, but if it would add another 37 HP I'm in!

Good article, but the author recommends one on the passenger side and possibly another on the driver side. Everything I've read on HC websites by folks that have done both say the driver side never catches anything.

I've got the UPR block mounted on my RE. Dry at 1500+ mi. so far. My supercharged 6.1 usually has @1" in the cup at @3000/3500 mi.

Now, how many of you pour the contents back into the block?

Would the smell of gas in the mix sorta spoil that idea?
