I did all 3. I am getting pretty good at it.
My Dealer put my supplied NGK 2309's in there for $560. WELL worth the money.
As of now I am thinking just MAYBE Dodge bushed the D170 rockers. I honestly cannot think of any other bronze part that could make those consistent flakes. Rod Bushing and Valve Guide are a stretch. Anything else?
Car runs perfect and you would never know if an oil change was not done.
I have only checked 2 random takeout plugs and both were .031.
I am in IN picking up my new Trailer in the AM tomorrow. View attachment 146449 View attachment 146450
Love that trailer.

I Have the same problem with a lot debris in between pleats of filter and shallow miles. I know it’s shows that it’s doing the job well and was designed to move as much air possible to the Blower but geez it looks like a land fill. I agree about placement of hood scoop and ducting acting like king size Hoover vac on steroids. Far worse than other Hellcats I’ve owned. Glad you found a solution. I will probably look up that JLT filter sock. I do like the OE look of bare filter but 45 mins every time to clean isn‘t fun.

I really feel your guys' pain, my daily driver redeye here in the southwest gets a fresh filter every 4-6 months. I have two so I can always have a fresh and clean one on the shelf to put on and can clean the other when I have spare time. Yeah takes a good hour with a pick and shop vac to clean out between all the pleats! @Speedy! I just loosen the band clamps and pull the rubber tube between the filter and throttle body completely off, gives plenty of room to loosen and change the filter then. Don't know if that's when you meant or not.

There any room for a pre-prefilter? Between the airbox and the hood, something very thin that goes between that seal.

That's what I ended up doing, but maybe it's the larger TB on the 170 or maybe the air tube is a little different, but it was a wrestling match to get the tube on and off. That PCV line didn't make things any easier either. I read if you break it you have to buy the whole intake at $1200.

I looked at that as well. If you could find the right material I think you could put some between the intake opening and hood, but you still have to deal with the headlight opening as well. When I pulled the filter it was black where the headlight opening was. I think the pre-filter sock thing is the best option.

Haven’t pulled my intake filter yet probably going to find same dark area behind headlight, Eric you probable get a lot more dust being in the Southwest. NM probably arid with some dust. But at least you don’t have to deal with high humidity that robs HP. Smart that you have two and just rotate out, always having fresh one ready.

A while back Cleetus McFarland put a Demon 170 crate motor in a TRX. He's known for being hard on equipment and I wondered how long it would last. They've drag raced it a bunch and finally put paddle tires on it and took it to Glamis for the sand dunes and beat the living crap outta the thing. The engine finally failed but after hours of WOT beating. Makes me feel like these are pretty good engines if you get a good one from the start.

He took a regular TRX and had a custom shop cut it down to a short cab. Pretty nuts the stuff he does and then gives away. Feedback on doing that was mixed on social media, so he then bought a regular TRX and gave the winner a choice of which they wanted lol.

I'm not sure what failed, hopefully they do a video on disassembly.
